New York passes law restricting minors’ use of AI chatbots

New York has enacted a law requiring AI chatbot operators to verify users’ ages and limit companion-like behavior for minors under 18. The measure bars chatbots from presenting themselves as human, emotionally sentient, or in a personal or authority relationship with a minor, and it also restricts outputs framed as personal opinion.
