First Lady praises Temwa Chawinga’s top-10 Ballon d’Or finish as a national milestone

Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika has praised Temwa Chawinga’s top-10 finish in the Ballon d’Or, calling it a national milestone and saying she has become the first female African footballer to place that high in the award. Mutharika said Chawinga’s run of record-setting performances at club and international level should inspire Malawians and strengthen belief that the country can compete at the highest level, including at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
